Hello

I'm Jane McGill

I am an endlessly inquisitive junior and student journalist at Central High School in Omaha, Nebraska. My investigative stories, features, reviews and opinion pieces have been recognized, both locally and nationally, for their insight and impact. I have won multiple honors in the Journalism Education Association’s national student media contests, including a Superior Award for Press Law and Ethics. For my investigation into the teacher shortage at my high school, I was awarded the 2023 Student Journalist Impact Award by JEA and Quill and Scroll. I am the 2023 Nebraska State Champion in Newspaper Newswriting. In addition to my work at the Register, I am also a documenter for Omaha Documenters and an Editorial Intern for the Omaha Reader. After high school, I plan on studying journalism in college to become an investigative reporter. When not writing or editing, I can be found watching French New Wave movies or reading science fiction novels.
